The Beacon Hill Transmitter is a large radio transmitting mast located near Marldon, Devon. It serves the Totnes and Torbay area and is a familiar landmark when travelling through the area.

This post shares a short evening drive past the transmitter and how it looks and feels after dark.

Passing the Transmitter in the Evening

My sister and I droved past the Beacon Hill Transmitter at around five in the evening. As it got darker, the red warning lights on the mast stood out sharply against the night sky.

At night, the structure feels quite imposing and slightly eerie, especially when the surrounding area is quiet.

A Local Landmark After Dark

The transmitter is normally something you see briefly in daylight, but at night it feels very different. The flashing lights and height of the mast make it stand out as a strong presence in the landscape, particularly when there are no other nearby light sources.
