Stover Country Park is a large nature reserve near Newton Abbot in South Devon. The park includes a visitor and community hub building, a freshwater lake, extensive woodland, and a wide range of local wildlife.

The park is known for its peaceful walking routes, which loop around the lake and pass through quiet wooded areas. Because of the dense trees and still water, parts of the park can feel slightly eerie, especially on grey or overcast days.

On the 19th of February 2026, Amber and I went for a walk around Stover Country Park. As we walked through the woodland, we saw a squirrel sitting quietly behind a tree, watching us. Around the lake, there were several birds resting on the water, adding to the calm but slightly atmospheric feel of the place.

Stover Country Park is a good location for nature walks near Newton Abbot, offering a mix of open water, woodland paths, and wildlife spotting opportunities.
