Dartmoor is home to many abandoned industrial sites, and Foggintor Quarry is one of the most striking. This post shares a visit to the quarry and explores its eerie atmosphere, abandoned ruins, and deep water-filled pits.
Visiting Foggintor Quarry
Amber and I went to visit Foggintor Quarry, a disused quarry on Dartmoor. The site has a very eerie and creepy feel to it, especially when you consider how quiet and remote it is.
There is a large lake within the quarry, where some people go wild swimming, despite the cold water and isolated setting.
Abandoned Ruins and Atmosphere
Next to the quarry are abandoned stone ruins, which add to the unsettling atmosphere of the place. The remains of old quarry buildings make it easy to imagine how active and noisy the area must have been in the past, compared to how silent it feels now.
Walking around the quarry, it feels very different from the open moorland surrounding it, making it stand out as a strange and haunting place within Dartmoor.
