Urban Newton Abbot: From Industrial Streets to Bakers Park

Newton Abbot has areas that feel very different from the town centre, especially on grey winter days. This post looks at a short walk through some of the more industrial parts of the town, leading into Bakers Park, and how that contrast feels.

Bakers Park and Its Background

Bakers Park is a green space in Newton Abbot, Devon. It forms part of the estate of a stately home, although the house itself is very rarely open to the public as it remains a private family home.

Despite this, the park is open and provides a quieter green area away from the busier parts of town.

Walking Through Industrial Newton Abbot

To reach Bakers Park, Jon Howell and I walked through some industrial areas of Newton Abbot. These parts of the town have a very urban feel and, on that particular day, looked quite ugly and slightly creepy.

The contrast between the industrial buildings and the green space of the park was very noticeable.

A Winter Atmosphere in the Town

On that day, the cloudy winter weather made parts of Newton Abbot feel eerie. Away from the main streets, the town felt quieter and more atmospheric than usual.
